Back in 1932, Mr Tan Eng Huat, one of the founders of Tan’s Tu Tu Coconut Cake was already selling his Tu Tu Kway in trishaws. Local hawkers transformed the traditional Hokkien San Kway from China by adding fillings and steaming them on pandan leaves. Painstakingly handmade by the traditional method, these moist rice cakes with coconut or peanut centres are best eaten while piping hot.
